The spinal column is one of the most amazingly designed structures in nature. It forms the centre piece of the human body, providing strength and stability which allows us to walk upright, while also offering a wide range of movement to the body in motion.
The spinal column is composed of two elements; 1 - the visible vertebral column composed of the vertebrae and the inter-vertebral discs, 2 - and the spinal cord that is enclosed and protected and is made up of nerves.
Backache is a result of a combination of reasons- physical, emotional, and mental. Our sedentary lifestyle has definitely contributed to it. So has stress, which is a modern- day affliction. A bad posture too, is linked to a human being’s emotional state. A happy man does not slouch. He walks straight. The psychological and physical make-up of a person, are both responsible for this disease. More people suffer from backache than any other form of pain or injury. Yet there are few solutions available. The common understanding is that if you have backache, you have to learn to live with it. And since we are continuously using our backs throughout the day, it becomes difficult to know exactly what triggers the backache and then correct that problem. Though backaches can stem from serious injury, most of the time it is the day-to-day activities, physical and mental, that gradually weaken and ultimately damage the back.
Before starting the program for back pain we can assess the root causes (for instance - faulty posture, driving/travelling, sport & exercise injury, lack of exercise, obesity, pregnancy/ post-natal care/ stress & muscle imbalance are some of the common causes). A few simple changes in the way you live your life will go a long way in relieving pain and strengthening your back.
