Yin Yoga was developed to penetrate, release, and lengthen our less pliable tissues in the body. It is highly recommended for those who have a lot of stiffness or for those who wish to add some restoration to their practice. A Yin class usually consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body - the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, lower spine. The poses are held for up to five minutes, sometimes longer. We generally use props (don't worry you can use stuff you already have in your home like pillows, books, and blankets) to accommodate varied flexibility and anatomy in these long-held poses. Yin Yoga is great for all practitioners, from beginners to the more seasoned yogi. Though those who are pregnant or have hyper-mobility should use caution when practicing.
